WHY ME was founded in 2021 by Danielle Smith after her diagnosis and treatment of HER2+ breast cancer. Danielle had a vision to help Huron County residents when going through their treatments in the form of a care package. She also did so much reading while going through her treatments she wanted to educate others on how to reduce your risk of getting this disease. Many community members came forward with their story and a small group was formed with this common interest.
Our team is made up of a small group of people along with several community businesses who are passionate about supporting health and wellness in our community. Trudy Anderson, Danielle Smith, Beth Morris, Brooke Bilyj, Joann Solnick are key members.
We partner with a variety of organizations and businesses in our community to provide education and support.
Four local hospitals help us provide gas cards to get to preventative appointments as well as treatments. Firelands Regional Hospital in Sandusky, Fisher Titus Hospital in Norwalk, Cleveland Clinic in Sandusky, and Willard Mercy Ho

At WHY ME, our mission is to educate the community in Huron County, Ohio about breast cancer prevention and provide support to those going through treatment. We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
